• Character Name: V
• Age: 28
• Canon (Date/Year Released)/Canon Point: Cyberpunk 2077 (released 2020) → Post game, the Sun ending + CRAU (detailed below)
• Items Coming Along:
- Backpack of supplies (clothes, boots, 2x MAXDOC MK.3 air hypos, Burrito XXL, can of NiCola Blue)
- Bullet pendant
- Nibbles the cat
- Archangel
- Box of 6 clips (36 bullets)
- Brennan Apollo "Scorpion" motorcycle
- Given the nature of Cyberpunk 2077, violence and sex are rife in Night City. It's quite possible that these things could come up in conversation if V talks about where he's come from/past experiences most likely past gigs he's worked e.g. rescuing people from dire and horrific circumstances
- V is a nomad whose community has been historically (and currently still is) discriminated against based on their nomad identity and that alone. This may also come up in conversation.
- Lastly, V's ending in game was the Sun ending where he has been returned to his life but essentially is living with what could be classed as a terminal illness. His life expectancy is months rather than years. This is something that plays on his mind at times, and though he's not likely to talk about it he will be thinking on it.
Character Background
• History: here
• Core Relationships:
- Johnny Silverhand | a dead, infamous rockerboy terrorist from before V was born. Johnny's personality and memories - one could argue his soul - was stored as a digital engram on the relic datachip V and Jackie stole from Arasaka. A series of coincidental (and traumatic) happenings later and suddenly V finds himself sharing his neural network with Johnny in digital ghost form, visible only to him. Their relationship is both complex and simple, and though they didn't start off on the best terms, V comes to love Johnny deeply as his closest confidant. He sees Johnny as more than family despite the fact that the datachip Johnny is stored on is not-so-slowly erasing V's own personality and memories, essentially killing his consciousness and leaving only his body behind as an empty shell to be inhabited. By the time they have the opportunity to separate themselves, they very much see each other as different halves of the same soul. Further to this, Johnny and V pursued a romantic relationship at Noctium after months of trying to adjust to the fact they both had their own bodies and their own neural networks, and dealing with surprising emotions off the back of that.
- Kerry Eurodyne | his lover, and one of Johnny's former bandmates. V met Kerry when Johnny insisted that they go look his old bandmate up. Kerry knows V's secret, that he's got Johnny Silverhand's engram riding shotgun in his head. A few mercenary jobs later and Kerry and V kicked their relationship up a notch. Kerry has been using his vast fortune to try and find a solution for V's failing neural network.
- Jackie Welles | V's best friend and likely the only reason he survived a few of his mercenary gigs. Jackie was with V when they stole the datachip containing Johnny's engram from a mega corporation called Arasaka. Jackie was injured fatally during that job and died in the back of a car with V desperately refusing to accept it, and despite meeting a Jackie in Noctium to try and work through some of the grief and guilt with, V will always feel guilty that Jackie died on that job.
- Panam Palmer + The Aldecaldos | Panam is also a nomad, though from a different clan to V, and after running a few jobs with her they found themselves blowing off steam by getting intimate with each other. Panam and her clan, the Aldecaldos, are the closest V still has to having a nomad clan. He's not officially part of the clan but he spends time at their camp and they generally let him know when they're on the move/where he can find them. He hugely values being able to immerse himself still in the nomad culture, especially when he's spent a lot of time in the city, and he sees a lot of the issues Panam has with her clan as things he's struggled with in the past. Rather than their relationship being romantic now, V sees Panam more as a clanmate and good friend.
- The Bakkers | V's clan, the Bakkers, are who he rode with ever since he was able to drive his own vehicle aka as soon as his limbs were long enough to reach the pedals/twist a throttle. They were all he'd known up until his decision to leave them, and though he's not been able to cross paths with them again, they were the leading influence in his formative years. The toughest decision he ever had to make was to leave the clan after they chose to join Snake Nation, a move that V didn't agree with. Nomads are usually very insular, keeping to themselves outside of finding work. By leaving the clan, V has been cast out and the clan won't have dealings with him whether that be for work or for the sentimental and emotional family ties they once had.
• Summary of CRAU Impact:
V spent 6 months in the world of Noctium as a gembonded. One of the four cardinal gems from the world is embedded somewhere on the gembonded's body and they then have access to powers relating to that gem. V was a sapphire-gembonded which gave him the ability to manipulate water and ice, breathe underwater and heal via touch.
As a visitor whose primary purpose was to engage in acts of intimacy to create Manna, (energy that the world needed to stay alive) V isn't any stranger to being intimate with a stream of different people.
Whilst in Noctium, a few major things happened:
- Once a month, for around a week, V was transformed into an ijiraq as all gembonded visitors to the world underwent these monster transformations as part of their bond with their cardinal gem. This has left him with a very open-minded view of folks he meets that don't conform to a rough approximation of 'human'. It also leaves him slightly less perturbed by monsters he comes across even though no such thing exist in his canon.
- The brain damage he suffered as a result of the Relic was repaired to a non-terminal level by scientists on Noctium. He won't know whether this will continue to hold at Deer Country and so will be looking for people who can potentially help him figure that out
- Johnny Silverhand (the personality construct V had in his head for most of his canon) had his own body rather than being stuck in V's head as an engram of a dead rockerboy, and they eventually ended up pursuing an intimate relationship with each other which V will feel hugely adrift without even above and beyond how uncomfortable it still feels at times to not have Johnny inside his head with him
- V became aware of the multiverse and met several different versions of himself plus several people he knows from a different version of his world e.g. Jackie Welles, Goro Takemura
- V also spent time with people from his world who had died from his point in the timeline
- Having struggled through some severe side effects (memory loss, extremely negative personality shifts) from the brain damage he suffered due to the datachip, V is acutely concerned about anything regarding memory loss and is easily triggered by it. He's also likely to get physically defensive very quickly if anybody gets too close to the datachip he still has slotted into the datachip slot he has integrated into his skull
Character Personality Through Key Moments
(2+) Positive Experiences:
[+] V is loyal. He's a good friend to have around for more than just hanging out to watch trashy shows with. He's proven time and time again that he'll do whatever his friends need him to, his loyalty unwavering once it's earned. He's a mercenary big into staying true to his people. His nomad clan upbringing informs this deep need to be loyal and his found family, the one he's forged in Night City, reap the benefits. For example, his willingness to help Judy with her plan to overthrow the ganger owners of Clouds and give the dolls more security and safety after what happened to Evelyn.
He's also big into respect and sentimentality especially in gestures as seen at Jackie's ofrenda, and the fact that he's been wearing Johnny's dogtags since Johnny had led him to them at the Pistis Sophia and promised that he'd do right by V. This reciprocation of loyalty is just as important to him and what helps satisfy his need to feel part of a family.
[+] V is kind. Despite the harshness he's come to expect from the world - being a nomad in Night City especially isn't easy - V is quick to share a smile, a laugh or a joke. He's open with his affection, honest with his views and warm. While trust still has to be earned, he likes to think he's a reasonably good judge of character and responds well to people who put life before anything else.
A mercenary by trade, he always looks for the least damaging options and outcomes to any job with very few exceptions. Given a thievery gig? He'll employ as much in the way of stealth as possible in order to avoid violence. After all, that security guard might have people who would be devastated if they didn't return home.
Despite the rough start he and Johnny got off to, he voluntarily spent time in the oil fields Johnny's body was disposed at a half century ago, carving a marker into sheet metal casing to act as a gravestone for the man. He did this as an act of kindness seeing that it was something that was important to Johnny.
At a pre-arranged street fight, he gave his winnings - his opponent's wagered car - back to the man he'd beaten fair and square on seeing that he had been trying to give his pregnant girlfriend and future child a better life. Knowing how rough Night City is, he wanted to show the man who had been goading him not 10 minutes earlier a kindness.
(2+) Negative Experiences:
[+] V is reckless. Taking risks as a young nomad was necessary to survive, and as a mercenary it's just part of getting the job done. While V tries not to let his desire for danger impact others around him, he'd be lying if he said it hasn't ever had negative consequences for people he cares about. He still blames himself for Jackie's death, and it makes going to see Mama Welles incredibly difficult despite her begging him to catch up. More than that, V's ache for an adrenaline-fueled, quickening pulse sometimes collides violently with his drive to survive. It's these moments that it can be dangerous to be around him as, though it's likely doesn't want anybody to get hurt, the things he's involved with sometimes bear heavy collateral damage.
He often takes jobs that are traumatizing even to hardened veterans of the trade, and these stay with him often long after he's been paid for completing the gig. Seeking something hard and fast to plow his attention and focus into feels like a good way for him to cope and, since he avoids drinking alcohol, being a daredevil seeking an adrenaline rush instead feels like the obvious choice. The cyberpyscho gigs he takes from Regina are a prime example of how extreme and dangerous the positions he thrusts himself into are. These are the types of gigs that nobody really wants, especially given the request to incapacitate the cyberpsychos rather than kill them.
[+] V is emotionally-dependent. Raised in a nomad clan, V's always been taught that family comes first. It's this fundamental view on how he wants his life to be that leaves him, at times, needy for close company and looking for security in his bonds with others.
Despite the fact he left his clan to pursue opportunities in Night City, we see it's not long before V assembles a found family of his own. Further to that, the complicated and sometimes cynically parasitic bond that he developed with Johnny Silverhand left him missing a piece of himself that he's desperate to try and fill now that they are separated. It's Silverhand's own words that they share pieces of their souls with each other - once they've been pulled apart post-Mikoshi they aren't whole anymore. V feels this loss deeply and will do even more so now that he doesn't have Johnny around at all. It leaves him also refusing to believe that anybody else can or will ever be as close to him as Johnny was.
No stranger to loss, V wants to make the most of his time with the people he loves. The fear of losing more people absolutely drives him to want to spend as much time as possible with people he loves, and at times this can absolutely be suffocating neediness at play.
Deer Country Attributes
• Canon Powers:
V has a considerable amount of cyberware installed to aid his body's performance in a myriad of things. For maximum spice, sometimes these may glitch or malfunction at the most inopportune moments especially as he doesn't have easy access to a RipperDoc to tune/upgrade/maintain optimal status. He'll need to find somebody to help him if any of his not easily accessible internal cyberware starts failing.
- Highly proficient with weapons including all manner of guns, blades and blunt weapons such as baseball bats learnt as a nomad and honed as a mercenary
- Excellent hand-to-hand combat skills underpinned by the level of cyberware enhancements he has installed and being physically fit otherwise
- Highly proficient in crafting items due to life as a nomad and having to scavenge for, repair and restore items that would otherwise be unavailable to the clan
- Excellent at hacking due to enhanced skills with technology. E.g. it shouldn't take him too long to get to grips with the network and understand how to make anon posts
- Well-practised at being stealthy allowing him to avoid confrontations on merc gigs when he wants to do something quietly and without fuss
